Hazel Blezek

COLUMBUS - Hazel "Maxine" Blezek, 93, of Columbus, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at her home.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Visitation is from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, with a 10:15 a.m. family prayer service, at the church. Burial is 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Stanton Cemetery.

Mrs. Blezek was born Jan. 21, 1910, in rural Stanton, to Clarence and Mary Nancy (Purdy) Everson. She attended a country school near Stanton, and high school in St. Charles, S.D. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and English from Wayne State College. She taught school in District 83 near Stanton, and later in Wolbach.

She married John W. Blezek on June 20, 1941, near Stanton. The couple resided in Fort Worth, Texas, during World War II; following her husband's discharge from the U.S. Army/Air Force they moved back to Nebraska. She then taught in several schools until retiring in Sidney in 1971.

She was a member of the Eastern Star in Sidney and Wayne State Alumni Association.

Survivors include two sons, John W. (Nancy) Blezek III of Columbus, and Ronald E. (Shirley) Blezek of Reno, Nev.; sister-in-law, Alvera Everson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brother-in-law, Glen (Ruth) Blezek of Victorville, Calif.; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Clarence Everson and Leonard Everson; two sisters, Ethal Everson and Eleanor Vossberg; and brother-in-law, Harold Vossberg.
