Bluejays fly to 10-0 with win at Bradley

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Creighton is 10-0 for the second straight year and sixth time in school history.

The Bluejays posted their third straight win in Peoria on Monday night, beating Bradley 66-49.

CU's last start better than 10-0 came when the 1942-43 squad opened a school-record 16-0.

Creighton is now 39-5 since the start of last season, trailing only Pittsburgh and Kentucky over a comparable stretch.

Brody Deren scored 15 points and had 14 rebounds before fouling out late in the Missouri Valley Conference game against the Braves.

Nate Funk scored 12 points and Joe Dabbert, who also fouled out in the second half, added 11 for the Blue Jays (10-0, 2-0), who scored the game's first nine points.

Creighton led by five at the half and then pulled away in the second half behind a strong defense that limited the Braves to just 27 percent shooting (6 of 22).

Deren fouled out with 2:48 to play and had 11 of his rebounds in the second half .

Bradley (8-5, 1-1) shot just 30 percent for the game. Marcus Sommerville scored 12 points and Joey Paul had 10 for Bradley, which was beaten on the boards 42-31 in a game that drew 8,853 to Carver Arena. The Braves played their third straight game without leading scorer Phillip Gilbert, who is sidelined with a stress fracture in his right foot. He is averaging 20 points per game. Bradley had a six-game homecourt winning streak snapped.

Creighton is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday when the Bluejays play at Illinois State in another Missouri Valley Conference game.
